Grounded Boeing jets sit at Melbourne airport

MELBOURNE, Fla. (FOX 35 Orlando) - Orlando Melbourne International Airport is a parking lot for the infamous Boeing 737 Max 8 aircrafts.

American Airlines confirmed that three of its Max 8 fleet of 25 will be stored in Brevard County. Two landed Thursday without any passengers; the third jet landed Friday afternoon.  It is now a waiting game as Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration, along with investigators work to determine the cause of two deadly plane crashes.

"We are doing everything we can to understand the cause of the accidents in partnership with the investigators, deploy safety enhancements and help ensure this does not happen again," said a Boeing Company representative.

Until the problem is diagnosed and fixed, 371 Max 8 and 9s worldwide remain on the ground. The fix could happen in Central Florida, as a company which specializes in aircraft repair and modification is based at the Melbourne Airport. The company is called STS Aviation, and the jets stopped by the facility prior to being parked.

American Airlines representatives say that no work is planned for these aircrafts. Other airlines have moved the Max 8s to a handful of airports around the country.
