Car accident causes power outage in Orlando

OUC crews had their hands full dealing with a power outage that started early this morning. At one point, a house began sparking and smoking while they worked. Orlando police say it started with a car accident.

“I heard a loud bang and I've lived on this corner long enough to know when I hear that something happened,” recalled resident Frank Bertone

They say a drunk driver smashed into an electric pole around 3:30 Sunday morning. OUC said it knocked-out power near Forest Avenue and Virginia Drive in Orlando.

“There was no power anywhere,” Bertone recalled, “all the streetlights were out, everything was out.”

Neighbors say they've been worried about what they call dangerous drivers on this street.

“I hear a lot of screeching tires but I don't see a lot of accidents,” said Trueman Garrison, “so it's just one of those corners where you have to be wary, you know?”

OUC said about 1,100 people lost power but all had been restored by the afternoon.
